Back To School

Wow! Summer has flat flown by.

Last night we had a new event to attend, as the school has never done anything like this before, we attended a Freshman Orientation. Of course, Birddog is pulling his usual and griping saying, "Let's just get his schedule and leave." That's not how they had it set up. It was actually pretty fun.

The worst was the first. We had to stand in line to get in, but they were giving each student a nametag, schedule, giving any unsigned papers from pre-enrollment to be finished, etc. We all then went to the cafeteria for the "FREE" meal of hamburgers, chips, cake, tea or water.

The principal, who just moved up from the Middle School and is TOTALLY AWESOME spoke to everyone for a few minutes then the fun began.

The Student Council took all the freshmen and toured the school and played a variety of games, etc. I think they all had fun, anyway, it looked like they were all having a blast. While the kids were playing around, the parents had their child(ren)'s schedule and every 5 minutes had to go to the classes. We had no maps, but fortunately Birddog and I both graduated from Chisholm, and had to find the classes. We were in each class for 5 minutes while we met the teachers and they explained how they ran their class and what was expected of the students. I think it was really neat.

At the end we all gathered up again while the principal told us of a new program being implimented at the High School to encourage the students to achieve good grades, etc. We looked through the handbook touching on things she felt were important to make sure everyone was aware of and then the evening was over. A whole BUSY 2 hours.

I didn't hear anymore complaints from Birddog, so I guess he thought it was kinda fun. I think it put the kids a little more at ease because they got to run around the school and become familiar.

The only complaint from Scoop was he has a bottom locker and a kid he doesn't care for a whole lot above him. . .Other than that - I think he's set. . .

It just seems like yesterday we were sending kids off to school.. and now our daughters are doing that with their kids. This brings to mind two things: #1 How time flies (so enjoy every moment of this year!!!) and #2 Managin that time when the world is a mad house (so choose list your priorities - and stick them on the fridge in neon colors)

Hey Julie - Bump is still in the hospital. . .12 days now. .Doing better but getting frustrated. He has a hernia that in the next 9 months they are going to have to go back in and repair. Therefore, they have not let him leave because the incision is in a vacuum pack and they can't find a portable one. . .
Please keep him in your prayers - he has a real hard time keeping his head up right now. . .

Pamela - Birddog and I are basking in every minute with the boys. Bud will be finished in 2 years and we are now working on college things for him (thank goodness I am there right now and know what to expect) and Scoop has 4 years left.
Thanks so much for the input.
Come back and visit. . .

We have an open house similar to the one you went to, but we don't do the parents going to their childs' classes for 5 minutes. I think that is an excellent idea! I am gonna suggest it for next year. Also, you have better food than us. We just serve hot dogs.

Songbird - It really was a good time. We got to see what kids were going to be in each class with Scoop so now we know whether or not to worry about him being onery and getting into trouble - LOL. . .
